The "Department of Diplomatic Service and Communication" of the faculty of international relations was established in May 2010. In this department students study both theoretical and practical issues of diplomatic and consular service.

In the study plan a very important place is given to the specifities of diplomatic and consular service, to the responsible mission and main duties of diplomat.

Such subjects as holding diplomatic talks, diplomatic treatment, diplomatic etiquette and protocol, area studies which are an inseparable part of diplomatic service are studied in the department.

Excellent knowledge of foreign languages (european and eastern) is greatly appreciated in the "Department of Diplomatic Service and Communication".

According to the 24th article of the Law of Diplomatic service of RA knowing at least 2 foreign languages is required. Because of this necessity the study of the first and second languages is implemented according to possessing diplomatic speech and culture and also diplomatic service skills.

Graduaters with high progress can take their master’s degree. After passing the exams the best graduaters have an opportunity to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, international organizations and administration of international communications of different ministries.

The Public Administration program at YSU was launched in 2005, by offering MPA (Master of Public Administration) degree classes. The Program was initiated and conducted in partnership with Arizona State University, School of Public Affairs, beginning from 2003. After two years of preparatory activities, in 2005 the MPA program of YSU was launched with a completely new curricula and newly trained professors, having first graduates in 2007. Since September 2007, the Public Administration program at YSUs started to offer 4-year Bachelor’s degree full time as well as distant courses. In 2008, Chair of Public Administration was established within the Department of International Relations, YSU.

The major directions of research conducted at Public Administration Chair concern, though not limited to, a variety of political-administrative aspects of state governance and public administration systems, as well as pertain to theoretical and applicable dimensions of local self-governance, public management reforms conceptual and practice-oriented academic studies.

Currently, 11 lectures work at YSU Chair of Public Administration, while 5 of them hold a PhD degree.

The Chair was formed in 1993. From 1993 to 2000 the Chair was headed by professor E. A. Zohrabyan and from February 2001 till April 2008 by professor V. A. Bayburdyan. During 2008-2013 the head of the Chair was again professor E. A. Zohrabyan. Starting from September 2013 the head of the Chair is M. Vardazaryan. From September 2017 as an acting head of Chair has been appointed PhD in history, associate professor V.S.Petrosyan. Since 2018 V.S.Petrosyan is the Head of Chair of International Relations and Diplomacy.

Until the formation of the department of International Relations in September 1998 the “The Chair of Theory and History of International Relations” was in the staff of the department of History.

Initially consisting of 4 members nowadays the Chair already has 23 members, 11 of them with full staff, the others with half or quarter. Nowadays 4 doctors of sciences, one of them being NAS RA Associate member, and 14 associate professors are teaching at the Chair. Eight lecturers have experience of diplomatic work.

The members of the Chair make scientific researches, which mainly concern the following directions.

1. Issues of Armenian diplomacy and foreign policy,
2. Current processes of international relations,
3. Global and regional integration developments.

Yearly scientific sessions and conferences are initiated by the Chair. Periodically meetings are organized with foreign diplomatic representatives accredited to the Republic of Armenia and renowned lectures invited from abroad.

The Chair of Political Science has been operating at Yerevan State University since 1991, established by the decision of the June 6, 1991 sitting of the YSU Academic Council. 1991-1998 the Chair of Political Science operated within the YSU Faculty of Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology. 1998 The Faculty of International Relations was established on the basis of the Department of International Relations of YSU Faculty of History and the Department of Political Science of YSU Faculty of Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology.

By the decision of YSU Academic Council in 2010 the Chair of Political Science was reorganized into two chairs: 1) History and Theory of Political Science, 2) Processes of Political Institutions.

By the decision of YSU Psychiatrists, on March 21, 2022, the Chair of Political Science was formed by merging the two chairs.

In the development of the Chair of Political Science, there are several trends, namely: 1) the creation and internationalization of the infrastructure of political science; 2) training of political scientists and strengthening the research potential of scientists; 3) formation of a new methodological base for political research; 4) study of the political system and regime transformations, comparative analysis of political factors and processes, as well as problems of national and regional security, world politics and public policy.

The implementation of the political science course program in the educational process provides for lectures, seminars, students writing analytical papers on one of the problems of political science. It assumes and encourages the independence and creativity of students in the course of their work with scientific, social and political literature, contributes to their free formation of worldview, social and political knowledge.

The Chair of Political Science conducts fundamental and applied research. If fundamental research is related to theories of power and the political system, then applied research includes the concepts of public administration and party strategy and tactics, political analysis, and decision-making theory.

The department currently employs about 30 lecturers, of which 7 are doctors and professors, 20 are candidates of science, 10 are associate professors, and 3 are assistants.

Center of Chinese Language and Culture (CCLC) was founded at the Faculty of International Relations by the decision of the YSU Academic Council on June 19, 2015. The general goal of the center is to study Chinese language and enhance our knowledge of it. The Head of the Center is the Head of Chair of the Department of Diplomatic Service and Communication Associate Professor Syuzanna Navasardyan.

Tasks and functions of the center:

To promote the teaching of Chinese language at YSU

To direct students’ educational interests to Chinese cultural values and implement extra work with students

To support the introduction of the Chinese educational process, organize relevant vocational trainings for YSU students

To support the YSU collaboration with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China accredited to the Republic of Armenia and Confucius Institute at Yerevan State Linguistic University

To cooperate with YSU and other universities, research centers for the effective implementation of the work of center, as well as for the exchange of experience

To organize individual and group lessons of Chinese language for University applicants, as well as external applicants, according to internal standards

To plan and implement thematic courses, film reviews, exhibitions, Olympiads in the field of Chinese language, culture, religion and history, as well as celebrate national holidays and other events
