Today the international two-day conference “Gender inequality in the labor market: problems and solutions in local and global context”, organized by YSU Centre for Leadership and Gender Studies, was opened at YSU Hall after Palyans.
The conference participants were welcomed by YSU Vice-Rector on general Affairs Ararat Malkasyan, who emphasized the importance of the topic and noted that via similar discussions, conferences, researches, academic courses YSU makes an attempt to contribute to the ensuring gender equality in the labor market.
“The main factor contributing to gender inequality inArmeniais also the continuing economic incompatibility opportunities between men and women. The phenomenon of the gender inequality in labor market is still among the key social issues. The solution of the problem requires a comprehensive range of strategic projects, and in this process education has one of the most important roles,” - says Ararat Malkhasyan.
Associate Professor at YSU Faculty of Sociology Sedrak Astvatsaturov, who presented the report "Gender Risks in the Employment Sphere”, noted that gender issues deal with other areas - youth, maternal and child protection, migration, unemployment, etc.
Professor of the Czech Academy of Sciences Alyona Krizhkova, representative of theInstituteofSociologypresented the experience, policy and strategy of her country in the area required.
A number of topics were also discussed at the conference: women and men as a labor force, gender segregation and the obstacles in the labor market, gender pay gap, women’s unpaid work, the feminization of poverty, unemployment and part-time employment, gender aspects, etc.
YSU students, representatives of the NGOs, foreign specialists and researchers were present at the conference.
Tomorrow the participants will present trafficking, migration issues, the role of women in society and family, working mothers’ social status and other issues related to the sphere.
