On November 20 the results of the research on “Implementation of Women’s Political Rights in Armenia” were presented.
The event was organized by YSU Centre for Gender Studies and Leadership.
The meeting was attended by the experts from various fields, students, as well as the professionals who are seriously examining the issues related to women’s political participation opportunities.
Author of the research Gayane Ghazaryan has already implemented a number of sociological researches on gender-related issues.
This research, made with the support of the NGO “Shahkhatun” (Women and Democracy Assistance) is on the issues of the implementation of the political rights of the men and women and in particular the identification of discrimination against women.
The author had sorted by groups men and women, who are occupied in political, government and public affairs, taking into account the major standards (age, education, position, etc.). Biographical interviews have been made to compare the differences.
The sample included 25 respondents (13 women, 12 men), as well as experts from 4 NGOs, dealing with the gender issues.
The study found that women in government, politics and other fields (especially in high positions) are facing multiple forms of gender discrimination, which, however, sees the tendency to decrease among the younger generation.
Gayane Ghazaryan also made a series of proposals, which mainly related to the NGOs and initiatives, occupied in the area required.
