The venue was YSU Academic Council Hall. The presentation was held by the Executive Director of the Armenian community “Nor Nakhichevan” of Rostov-on-Don, who is also the Director of the newly opened Centre for Armenian Studies Sergey Sayadov. We should note that this Centre has been founded with the support of YSU Institute for Armenian Studies.
Before the presentation of the site Mr. Sayadov was received by YSU Rector Aram Simonyan. “There is a stereotype that the major part of the institutions, engaged in the Armenian Studies, are in the Western countries, but sometimes just the one who receives a grant, proclaims himself as a specialist in this area,” - said Mr. Simonyan. He added that he would like this Centre to support the activities of the analogous institutions in the RF or support the further development of the existing ones.
Rector said YSU is willing to help by providing not only manuals and other literature, but also in the sphere of the scientific researches, organizing conferences, etc.
Hayazg.info Online Encyclopedia was created in 2007, when Mr. Sayadov realized that a huge amount of the material is stored in printed versions and one should waste time to find something.
“This is an ethnic Encyclopedia connected to everything which regards to the Armenians, the Armenian cultural heritage, the Armenian people, etc. The site offers over 300,000 articles and exists owing to the variety of materials sent by various authors. From all over the world we receive photos, materials, information and then check it, too. The website does not have visitors probably only fromAntarctica,” - says Mr. Sayadov.
The site has 100,000 visits monthly. The visitors are mainly from Russia(58%), Armenia(22%), Ukraine(7%), as well as Germany, France, Turkey, Israel, Azerbaijan, etc.
Its structure is very similar to the Wikipedia, but unlike it, everyone can not place or edit materials. Those are sent to Sergey Sayadov, who edits everything and then only this all becomes available to the public. “My dream is to set up a permanent editorial office, which is not so far from the reality,” - Mr. Sayadov hopes.
The encyclopedia operates with the support of the Hayazg Foundation.
