The main goal of the visit of YSU delegation, headed by Rector Aram Simonyan, was to participate in the international conference and exhibition in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat “Education, Sport and Tourism in the Era of Power and Happiness”.
Rector Aram Simonyan made a speech at the plenary session of the conference, where he highlighted the importance of the cooperation between the universities of the two countries, as well as presented the history of YSU and a number of details of current activities. Head of YSU Educational-methodological Department Hrant Zhamharyan also made report during the discussions.
Our delegation has held meetings with the Turkmen colleagues and several foreign universities’ representatives.
Our side has also been received by the managers of the Turkmen State University. The parties discussed the issues on further cooperation. A stress was put on the development of scientific cooperation and student exchange programs. Proposals were made on the programs in the field of Oriental studies and natural sciences.
In particular, an agreement was reached between the parties to send one PhD student from YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies, who is already fluent in the Turkmen language, to the Turkmen State University, to study Turkmen language and literature.
Head of the Chair of the Turkmen Philology Shikhnepesov will be the scientific supervisor of the PhD student, who has chosen the topic of life and the activities of the prominent Turkmen poet Makhtumkuli Fragi.
After graduating our student will develop his activities at YSU, delivering lectures in the Turkmen language. By the way, the Turkmen side is ready to cover the expenses of the Armenian post-graduate student.
YSU delegation also met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Turkmenistan Vladimir Badalyan with whom they discussed the cooperation projects. YSU Rector said Mr. Ambassador expressed his readiness to assist the bilateral cooperation between the universities.
