BLACK BUILDING IS 100 YEARS OLD
The Faculties of History, Economics and Theology, which are now located in this building, celebrated the 100th anniversary of the building on the 29th of November.

The initiative belonged to students, but everyone in the University tried to participate in this event as much as possible.

YSU Vice-rector Arsen Karamyan is a graduate of the Faculty of History: For me, as I am a former student and sometimes even just as a witness, it is a quite joyful and thrilling moment. In 1993-1994 The Ministry of Internal Affairs of RA had a serious intention to purchase this building to establish here the Police Academy. But the authorities of the University chose the right policy and this fact brings them a great honour. Everybody understood that the Black Building is a real cultural value itself and must serve as an educational center, - said Mr. Karamyan.

Head of the Student Council of the Faculty of Economics Magda Markosyan is proud-spirited and excited for has studied and studies in this building. Sometimes I just come here to have a rest, even if there are no lessons. She also added that this is the only event, which has united the Faculties of this Building. We celebrate an event, a holiday, which is our common and it is a gladness for all of us, - said Magda Markosyan.

The black building, located on Astafyan Street, used to be the Teachers Seminary in the beginning. In 1923 the first floor of the building was transferred to Yerevan State University. The Black Building serves as an academic and educational center for approximately 100 years. In Soviet years, in the period of reorganization, the building by address Abovyan 52 got the status of historical-cultural monument. The building is constructed in strict manner using splendid architectural ideas and ornaments.
