The medal was handed by YSU Rector Aram Simonyan today at his office. The meeting was also attended by Vice-rector Gegham Gevorgyan, Head of the International Cooperation Office Alexander Markarov, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Geology Marat Grigoryan, Head of the Centre for Sustainable Development Ruben Movsesyan.
The parties summed up the results of the cooperation in recent years, also discussed the upcoming projects.
YSU Centre for Sustainable Development was founded in 2012 by the OSCE Office in Yerevan on the basis of the Memorandum of
Understanding between the OSCE and YSU, signed on March 2.
The centre studies efficient and safe ways of using the mineral and water resources in the RA, in order to solve the socio-economic problems and to ensure sustainable development. It also supports the RA Government in the implementation of the UN plan for sustainable development at national and local levels, ensuring public participation in the environmental discussions and decision-making at all stages.
“At this moment we do not have the resources to develop a more satisfying work. We need financing for the purchase of, for example, modern technological facilities and satellite photographs,” - Ruben Movsesyan.
YSU Rector Aram Simonyan expressed his gratitude Mr. Sorokin for the support and willingness for cooperation: “So far the cooperation has been very positive, but it should be developed as the centre is occupied in many important areas.”
“I also want to thank you for the trust. Although we mainly deal with matters related to military security, we also consider vital issues with great pleasure, including those with which this centre deals. This is already the issue of the health of the population,” - said Mr. Sorokin.
