The meeting was attended by the vice-rectors of YSU, Deans of the faculties of Theology, Romance and Germanic Philology, Law, Oriental Studies and International Relations, as well as a number of professors and Head of International Cooperation Office Alexander Markarov.
“We are glad to welcome you at YSU. Today our country is experiencing difficult political times, but it should be noted that all protests and rallies are peaceful. Young people are fighting for justice and freedom, which is welcomed,” - said the Rector and added that YSU attaches importance to cooperation with German universities and scientific institutions.
Aram Simonyan also focused on the history of YSU foundation, touched upon the educational activities, as well as international relations.
“YSU has agreements with more than 200 foreign universities, but the ties with German universities are more active and effective. We are ready to further expand those ties, including other spheres,” - said YSU Rector.
The Rector of Halle-Wittenberg University thanked YSU administration for the meeting and expressed hope that new programs and ideas would be generated as a result of the acquaintances and discussions.
“It is an interesting political situation in Armenia. We were thinking long enough about the visit, but decided not to delay our visit because we saw that the processes were in a peaceful atmosphere,” - said Udo Stratner and added there is still much to be done to activate the cooperation between the two universities.
After the meeting, members of the delegation also visited a number of faculties of YSU, got acquainted with the lecturers and the educational process.
