ARMENIAN AND GEORGIAN CULTURE ON ONE STAGE
On May 25, the State Theater of Musical Comedy named after H. Paronyan hosted a festive concert of YSU Culture Centre and the ensemble “University”, representing Tbilisi State University named after Ivane Javikhishvili.

The festive concert was organized within the framework of cooperation between Yerevan State University and Tbilisi State University and was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Armenian-Georgian diplomatic relations.

 

The event was attended by Georgian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Georgi Saganelidze, delegation of the Georgian university headed by the Rector Georgi Sharvashidze, YSU Rector Aram Simonyan, vice-rectors, deans of faculties, heads of different departments, representatives of the professorial staff and students.

 

YSU Rector Aram Simonyan made a welcoming speech. He noted that cooperation between the two universities has a long history: “Over the years of our cooperation, many scientific and educational events and exchange programs have been held. We decided not only to continue our cooperation, but also to expand it.”

 

 

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Armenia Georgi Saganelidze, before the start of the concert, greeting the participants and congratulating them, noted that the goal of the event is to give the Armenian and Georgian students the opportunity to make friends: “We understand that we cannot build strong ties in one day, but this event can be a good start.”

 

Rector of Tbilisi State University named after Ivane Javakhishvili Georgi Sharvashidze noted that the friendly ties between the two countries were established long before the diplomatic relations: “At our university, which was founded 99 years ago, the subject “Armenian Studies” was taught from the first year. I am sure that we, having centuries-old friendship, will be able to create a bright and cooperative future.”

 

In the beginning of the concert, the choir and dance ensemble of the girls of YSU Cultural Centre performed. Then throughout the evening the ensemble “University” of Tbilisi State University performed well-known and beloved Georgian songs and dances.

 

 

In the end of the event, the Chairman of the Association for Cultural Relations and Cooperation between Armenia and Georgia Eduard Yepikisilov handed the Director of YSU Cultural Centre Karine Davtyan and the Head of the ensemble “University” of Tbilisi State University Certificates of Honor.
