JOURNALIST - ANGEL OR EXECUTIONER
JOURNALIST - ANGEL OR EXECUTIONER
"The trend to live with the "psychology of executioner" exists within us now. Journalists can not avoid it, too".

This statement belongs to the president of Journalists Union of Armenia Astghik Gevorgyan. She was the guest of YSU Faculty of Journalism studentship on the 9th of April. The initiative belonged to the SSS of this faculty. She began her speech with some kind of a declaration of love:

YSU for me is the only temple to whom I am obliged for all of my achievements in the area of my profession. Never forget You are the graduates of Alma Mater. I am the graduate of this faculty (it was newly opened that time).

Initially our guest focused on her biography, the passed way from HEI to JUA: I was working at Soviet Armenia newspaper, when I was elected the Secretary responsible of this Union in 1970. So, I am the manager of this institution beginning with this date. I have worked here for a long time, and I am not tired yet. In October of 1992 during the congress I was elected the President of this Union.

The coming elections of president of JUA are expected in June during the 11th congress.

JUA was founded in 1959. 2009 is the 50th anniversary of its foundation. Mrs. Gevorgyan states they do not possess required financial means to celebrate this anniversary date on a good level. If it is not going to become the holiday of journalists, then I see no reason to celebrate it.

Speaking about the challenges and issues existing in the area of modern journalism she noted that there is something untrue in the specialization of the journalist: the journalist is more often hurt, than praised. But owing just to this the instinct of self-preservation develops in them.

Journalist is the guardian of the society, as the social opinion is formed owing to their efforts. We are always at the hottest points and places, where even our signature raises fear, we are always there, where the active civil position is required, where sharp eyes are required..., - Mrs. Gevorgyan is sure.

She called to join the journalistic ethical norms, be honest and fair: The freedom of speech does not mean anarchy. If You have got to criticize someone, You have got to have at Your disposal additional ten facts to prove You are right.
