The purpose of the meeting of Mr. Changchun, whose diplomatic service in Armenia finishes soon, was to strengthen the existing cooperation and discuss new projects.
“Before I was assigned Ambassador to Armenia I had worked in Albania, Bulgaria and elsewhere, but have to say that the quietest atmosphere was here. I have never encountered any problem,” - says Mr. Ambassador.
The cooperation between YSU and the Embassy of PRC in Armenia has got a rich history. Rector Aram Simonyan ensures that it has already given its results on the academic level.
“This year the number of students studying Chinese has increased, which is a very positive fact. And we are already thinking about expanding the training in this language to provide the students of other faculties also to study this language, as currently it is available only at the faculties of International Relations and Oriental Studies,” - said Mr. Simonyan.
He also spoke about the implementation of the program with the Faculty of Russian Philology, in the framework of which a group of Chinese students study Russian language.
During the meeting, which was also attended by vice-rectors Gegham Gevorgyan, Alexander Grigoryan and Head of the International Cooperation Office Alexander Markarov, Mr. Simonyan expressed the intention to develop at YSU the Chinese Studies.
Tian Chanchun added that China’s Confucius Institute has expressed readiness to assist with the provision of specialists and technical means. He added that very soon a school with in-depth study of the Chinese language will be opened in Yerevan, where, in addition to general subjects, pupils will study Chinese culture, too.
