CONGRESS OF THE UNION OF ARMENIAN HISTORIANS TOOK PLACE AT YSU
Today, the Congress of the Union of Armenian Historians took place in YSU Academic Council session hall.

YSU Rector, Chairman of the Union of Armenian Historians Aram Simonyan made an opening speech: “We have very much work to do, because the word of historians in the modern world should become influential. Our society needs such a word really.”

Founding Director of the UAH, Deputy Director of the Institute for Armenian Studies of YSU Mher Hovhannisyan made a report. He welcomed the participants of the congress and presented the current state of the Union’s activities: “The first thing we tried to do in 2016 was to create a School of Historians. It had 40 students (historians) in 2016, including teachers. Ten members of our union have lectured there. We also had the opportunity to broadcast videos live on the Internet in Vanadzor and Artsakh State Universities.”

Mher Hovhannisyan also spoke of the Armenian Historical Journal in the English language: “The magazine will be exclusively in English. It will be equally accessible both in electronic and print versions. YSU has also taken up the issue of translation of materials.”

The Union has also held a scientific conference on “Problems of New Periodicity of Armenian History”. The presentations will be published in the 3rd issue of the journal “Issues of Armenian Studies” of 2017.

“We have much work and have a challenge to involving our compatriots in the Diaspora. According to our charter, all those who have a historian’s higher education (at least bachelor’s degree) can join,” - said Mher Hovhannisyan.

Union of Historians of Armenia accepts membership applications by December 31.

In Mher Hovhannisyan’s words, there are current English language courses for UAH members and those who want new membership.
