PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN YSU AND URUGUAY UNIVERSITY
Today, an agreement on cooperation between Yerevan State University and University of Uruguay was signed in the office of the Rector of Yerevan State University.

The guest of YSU Rector Aram Simonyan was the Rector of the University of Uruguay, Professor Robert Markaryan, who visited YSU with his wife Anna Maria Ferari. The meeting was attended by vice-rectors of Yerevan State University Gegham Gevorgyan, Alexander Grigoryan and Ararat Malkhasyan and Head of International Cooperation Office Alexander Markarov.

 

Rector welcomed the guests and briefly presented the history of YSU, scientific and educational activities, international cooperation and development prospects.

 

Mr. Markaryan thanked the Rector for the warm reception and noted in recent years the Armenian-Uruguayan relations have become more active, and the opening of the Department of Armenian Studies is expected at the University of Uruguay.

 

The guest spoke about the management system at their university, stating that the position of rector, which is among 20 most important positions in the state, is elected by the university staff, students and alumni. Although the university is funded from the state budget, it is absolutely independent of the government.

 

The professor also stressed he is much impressed by the teaching methods at the Armenian public schools and expressed a desire to apply them in Uruguay.

 

The parties signed a cooperation agreement and expressed hope that the cooperation will be mutually beneficial and effective.

 

Roberto Markaryan has also been received by a number of senior officials and visited the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The professor will visit the Chess Academy of Armenia, Matenadaran and “Tumo” Center for Creative Technologies.
