YSU Aparazh Mountaineering Club organized an event today dedicated to the holiday day.
The International Mountains Day was established in January 2003 by the decision of the 57th session of the UN General Assembly.
Suren Sepanyan, Head and Coach of YSU Aparage Mountaineering Club, told us that International Day has always been celebrated at YSU.
According to Suren Sepanyan, the club members consider themselves representatives of the mountains and believe that the youth are tomorrow's leaders and the keepers of the mountains and natural resources.
During the event the members of the club mentioned that it is necessary to raise the level of public awareness for the protection of the mountains.
At the end of the event the members of the club performed the song of mountaineers, after which Suren Sepanyan presented to the rector the club's property and achievements.
