Dorothea Ryuland arrived in Armenia with a delegation headed by Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. During the meeting in the office of YSU Rector, the cooperation of the Armenian side with different institutions in Germany was presented.
YSU Rector Aram Simonyan, Vice Rector on Educational Affairs Alexander Grigoryan, Head of International Cooperation Office Alexander Markarov, Dean of the Faculty of Theology Anushavan Bishop Zhamkochyan, Dean of the Faculty of Sociology Arthur Mkrtichyan, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry Tariel Kochikyan, Head of Chair of Genetics and Cytology Ruben Harutyunyan and Director of Information Technologies Educational and Research Centre Samvel Shukuryan were present at the meeting.
“We are very pleased that we have partners such as DAAD, I cannot recall any unpleasant incident in our cooperation. We have a long history of cooperation with scientific and educational institutions of Germany,” - said Mr. Simonyan briefly presenting guests the history of YSU, structure and current activities.
“Before coming here I talked with colleagues and saw quite a wide network between your university and a number of universities in Germany (Halle, Rostock, etc.). Today we want to discuss and understand how we can expand and deepen this cooperation,” - said the German guest.
During the meeting, each of YSU representatives spoke about the cooperation of his structure with this or that German center or university. Dorothea Ryuland also asked to voice specific suggestions and ideas for further support.
Currently Chair of Genetics and Cytology has a joint program with the University of Jena and Mr. Shukuryan noted that several years YSU holds a master’ program in the field of IT together with the University of Rostock. Graduates of this program receive dual diplomas.
Faculty of Sociology closely cooperates with the University of Munich and the University of Humboldt. Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry spoke about the first results of the training program, conducted jointly with the University of Rostock - this year first PhD thesis was defended. The faculty also conducts program with the Institute of Catalysis.
Faculty of Theology has a long-term cooperation with the University of Halle, most recently, the 100th anniversary of the Armenian-German friendship was celebrated at a joint forum, and auditoriums named after German Armenologists were opened at this faculty.
After the meeting, specific areas in which it is necessary to develop cooperation, were outlined and Dorothea Ryuland proposed several options for receiving international grants and joint work with the Armenian colleagues.
