The session was attended by deans of all faculties of YSU, heads of chairs, heads of scientific-educational, administrative departments, vice-rectors, who discussed the issues related to the academic-educational activities of the academic year 2017-2018.
YSU Rector presented the principles which are crucial for the development of YSU, combining them with the international experience.
“Focusing on innovative directions, one has to pay close attention to the creation of laboratories equipped with innovative and modern equipment. It is necessary to introduce the culture of short-term trainings and online educational programs that meet the requirements of time and do not ignore the quality of workforce, as well as target financing,” - said Aram Simonyan.
The Rector also spoke about activation of cooperation with the real sector of economy, creation of dormitory conditions for students, organization of educational process and effective management, pointing out the main perspective scientific-educational directions, the introduction of which is a requirement of time for YSU educational system.
Touching upon various conditions influencing the ranking of YSU at international and local scientific platforms, the Rector mentioned: “The ranking organizations of the universities have different approaches, and focusing on them does not make any sense. One thing is certain: YSU with its small budget in the international scientific-educational sphere in the region today enjoys a great reputation and is considered as a leader among Armenian universities.”
YSU Vice-rectors presented the problems in their fields, the work to be done to solve them, as well as possible prospects of ensuring new dynamics of development.
After the speeches, an active discussion was held among the Administration members, during which they touched upon the process of state funding distributed among the faculties, as well as the revision of the list of professions in the university, the necessity to carry out reforms in non-interconnected work processes between different educational institutions, public finances, a number of issues related to budget formation.
Particularly, deans of the faculties emphasized that the problems have national character and should be solved not only at the university, but also at the level of the country’s leadership.
“The fact that, for example, there is a decline in physics is not only the problem of the university, but also the whole country, and the response and steps of the problem should also be done at the state level. In a country which has nuclear power plant or mining industry, the demand for a physicist, mathematician or geologist is permanent,” - added Aram Simonyan.
The participants have also come to an agreement to make meetings more frequent and to address current challenges in the field of education, as well as to discuss issues.
