A NEW INSTITUTE WILL BE OPENED AT YSU
The final session of YSU Academic Council in 2016 was held today.

In the beginning of the session the award ceremony of the students who have won in the “ACM-ICPC” was held. 3 students from the Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics received monetary awards and YSU gold medals. The same medal went to the team trainer, lecturer Armen Andreasyan.

The first question was on the agenda was the implementation process of YSU Strategic Development Plan 2016-2020, which was presented by YSU Rector Aram Simonyan.

“It is great when you have a program with which you move forward, that is, the development is not spontaneous. Of course there are things which have not been successfully completed, but many things have been done properly. I am sure that the development will be sustainable,” - said Mr. Simonyan and added that a detailed report will be presented at the meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Then Aram Simonyan presented the results of the implementation of the complex measures on the corruption combat in 2015-2016 academic year.

“During the year a number of events were organized in this direction. A number of events were organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Council of Europe, which to some extent helped to raise the awareness of our combat against corruption, as well as preventive activities. We made some steps towards the creation of the Code of Ethics. Our university has also improved the performance of functions of human resource management,” - said Mr. Simonyan.

YSU also summarizes the financial year. Council members heard the writ of execution of “Yerevan State University” Foundation for 2016 and the estimates of the 2017 budget.

These reports were taken into consideration, and on December 23 will be presented for the approval to the Board of Trustees.

Director of YSU Ijevan Branch Samvel Arakelyan also made a report. According to him, every year the popularity of the branch grows in Tavush region. This is evidenced by the increasing flow of applicants. 1718 students are currently studying at the branch. This year it had 350 graduates and 385 freshmen.

“Now we offer 15 education programs, which, however, are subject to review in 2017, depending on labor market demands. For example, this year we introduced the specialization “Elementary Pedagogy and Methodology”, which became quite popular. We even asked the MES for additional places,” - says Samvel Arakelyan.

Then the regulation on granting the graduates the qualification of the pedagogue was submitted for the approval.

One of the issues on the agenda was the issue of the opening of Pharmacy Institute at YSU. It will be formed on the basis of the three chairs of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Chemistry. The faculty will be again renamed into the Faculty of Chemistry as before. This question will be submitted to the Board of Trustees for the approval.

The members of the Academic Council also discussed the issue of renaming the two chairs of the Faculty of Journalism. From now on the chairs of New Media and Communication and Print and Broadcast Media will operate at this faculty.

Back in June of this year, the Council had made a decision to open the Center for Constitutional Economics, and today the charter of this structure was approved.
