The second issue of the agenda of the 11th meeting of the Board of trustees of “Yerevan State University” foundation related to the appointment of the acting Rector of YSU.
Two candidates nominated by the Board of Trustees were the former Vice-Rector on Scientific Policy and International Cooperation, Professor of the Chair of mathematical Analysis and Theory of Functions, Academician of the RA NAS Gegham Gevorgyan and the head of the Chair of Civil Proceedings, Doctor of Law, Professor Vahe Hovhannisyan.
The members of the Board of Trustees and the candidates for acting Rector expressed their positions.
Gegham Gevorgyan said that he was sorry that his name had recently been associated with political events, revolution or anti-revolution. He stated that he had worked in the sphere of science and education for years. “I am not ashamed of the photos spread in the Internet on which I met Nikol Pashinyan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Arayik Harutyunyan in the university”.
Mr. Gevorgyan stated that it is illogical to speak about program changes as there are a discussion period and a holidays ahead, and then will come the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of YSU. “When the time for rector’s elections comes I will come up with a program report which will be discussed and either affirmed or rejected”.
Vahe Hovhannisyan said that the time for speaking about perspective programs had not come yet. He stressed that the acting Rector must provide stability in the university.
“We must take active steps to provide healthy environment as it is very important”, he said. He added that the issue must not be politicized, only the interests of the university must be taken into account.
As a result of the voting, Gegham Georgyan got 21 votes, and Vahe Hovhannisyan-11 votes.
The information about Gegham Gevorgyan is available here.

Since the morning of December 12th, a group of Azerbaijani civilians disguised as environmentalists have imposed a blockade on the Goris-Stepanakert highway (the Lachin Corridor) which is currently the only route linking Nagorno-Karabakh to the outside world. On top of that, during bitterly cold winter Azerbaijan had shut off natural gas supplies leaving the civilians in the territory without heating for 75 hours.

According to the agreement approved today, the two universities will carry out exchange programs for professors, researchers and students, will exchange scientific, professional literature, periodicals and other materials, will organize joint research programs, conferences and other events.
