It should be noted that 24 of the 28 members of the Academic Council participated in the session of the Academic Council. YSU Rector Aram Simonyan also attended the meeting. Gegham Petrosyan was nominated for the post of Dean by 5 chairs of the Faculty.
Presenting his program, Gegham Petrosyan said he would continue to consistently implement the goals and priorities of the faculty, which were developed on the basis of YSU Strategic Development Plan in 2016-2020.
“There are many reasons and factors that make imperative a new strategic planning process. Growing and globalizing competition requires both YSU and the Faculty of International Relations to evaluate, compare, and continually increase its competitive advantages and potential. The challenges of socio-economic and social change will undoubtedly promote competition between universities in the field of “International Relations”, “Political Science”, “Public Administration” and relevant specializations. In the era of globalization, where the distance is no longer an obstacle to communication, this competition and new opportunities will be expanded not only in the national but also in the international context,” - he added.
Speaking about the strategic programs and current issues at the faculty, Gegham Petrosyan mentioned that in order to provide quality education, it is necessary to transform the structural and content of educational programs of all faculties of the faculty. According to him, in order to improve the teaching, learning and evaluation processes, the faculty needs to develop the capabilities of the teaching staff, to promote the introduction of modern teaching methods and technologies, to develop and introduce mechanisms, prevent plagiarism to improve postgraduate education as an important component for the creation of new knowledge through research, promote interdisciplinary graduate students, domestic and international cooperation, providing a favorable environment for research.
Speaking about organizational issues, the dean mentioned that it is necessary to continuously organize the Summer School for senior students and organize annual Open Days and Cognitive Visits for the pupils of high schools and colleges. According to him, today it is a necessity to create a Political and International Relations Research Center at the Faculty of International Relations.
“There are similar research centers in a number of leading universities in the world today,” - he added. According to the dean, today it is necessary to create a Candidate's and doctoral dissertation council on "Political Science and International Relations" at YSU.
YSU Rector Aram Simonyan, speaking about Gegham Petrosyan, mentioned that Dean has many virtues: “During these years Gegham Petrosyan proved that he is a good manager. Being so busy, he also deals with science, which has greatly welcomed,” – said Mr. Simonyan.
YSU Rector Aram Simonyan, speaking at the session of the Academic Council of YSU Faculty of International Relations, mentioned about the situation in the country: “Today we are proud to have such youth, despite all economic and social difficulties, they are full of optimism. But our youth lacked cautiousness and discernment, which is the guilt of the older generation. We have not been able to create such an environment or conditions for our young people that they can best use their potential for the sake of the people, the state and the health of the society. The biggest of these omissions is that the feeling of justice is at a very low level in our society, which is the guilt of the elder generation. This crucial value of universal humanity is in a very low position because we have forgotten that one of the two most important conditions for the progress of society is justice, the second is to follow the law. Countries that have made these two conditions a real power for them are rapidly developing, unfortunately, we have not succeeded in implementing them yet, so it's too early to call our society civil. Besides the universal values, there are also national fundamental values that we have not sowed among our youth. The peoples who do not practice the national fundamental values have no future. We are the people that once again have no right to risk because we have enemies, and now we are at risk, without understanding and thinking that we are a small people. Today, there is injustice, for which big changes are needed, but these changes must be carried out only in the legal field and in accordance with the law.”

Dean is elected at the faculty council by secret ballot for a five-year term.
