As the term in office of the Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies expired, new elections of dean were announced at this faculty according to the procedure of the elections of dean and the order of YSU Rector after February 25, 2014.
3 candidates initially entered the campaign: Candidate of Philology, Professor Gurgen Melikyan, Doctor of Philology, Professor Garnik Asatryan and Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Ruben Melkonyan. Then Garnik Asatryan and Ruben Melkonyan withdrew.
The elections took place on March 28. 48 of 52 members of the council of faculty were present. The only candidate received 43 votes, 3 votes were against. 2 ballots were invalid.
According to the 3rd and 4th paragraphs of the procedure of the elections of dean of the faculty of YSU, the professor or associate professor, who has the title of candidate or doctor of sciences and at least 5 years of experience in research and pedagogic affairs, can be elected dean. Dean is elected by the faculty council, via secret ballot, for the period of 5 years.
