The job fair entitled “There is one Step from HEI to the Labor Market” was held at YSU. The decision to hold the fair was made in May of this year, when the structures of several major universities involved in the career-related issues signed a memorandum of cooperation at YSU. According to one of the paragraphs of this memorandum, each year one of the universities should organize job fairs for their students and students from other universities. As this year marks the 95th anniversary of YSU foundation, it was decided to hold the first fair here. The RA Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the Youth Foundation of Armenia supported the organizing of this event.
Organizers of the fair are Yerevan State University, Yerevan State Linguistic University, American University of Armenia, Armenian State Pedagogical University, Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction, Agricultural University of Armenia, State Engineering University of Armenia and the Armenian State University of Economics.
“We have stated for many years that the university and business world should cooperate, as without this it is impossible not only to provide new graduates with job, but also to prepare specialists. In the 21st century, universities can not prepare full-fledged professionals, excluding the requirements of the labor market,” - stressed the importance of the fair YSU Rector Aram Simonyan.
The opening of the fair was attended by heads of all partner universities, representatives of the business world and hundreds of students who could leave in place their CV or take part in the interviews conducted by the employers. By the way, one of the important conditions for participation in the fair was that the enterprises did not simply represent the activities, but also offered vacant positions.
“Job fairs have already proven their effectiveness for all parties - universities, employers, employment agencies and job seekers. The cooperation of these four sides leads to the development of the economy and the solution of important problems of our country, including the prevention of emigration,” - says the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Sona Harutyunyan, who also attended the opening ceremony of the fair.
In more than 100 pavilions there were represented companies operating in the fields of information technology, finance, tourism, telecommunications, science and education, pharmaceutics, etc. By the way, some of the companies indicated that a significant portion of their employees has joined them as a result of cooperation with university career centers.
Vice-rector on Students, Alumni and Public Relations Ruben Markosyan, stressing the importance of the initiative, said that it is already several years that YSU is pursuing a consistent policy towards the development of cooperation between the labor market and the university.
“Each university has invited its partner companies, so today’s labor market is represented here quite wide. We invited 35 of our partners with whom we work very active all year round. Cooperation includes the organization of courses, trainings, dissemination of information among students about vacancies, etc.,” - noted the Director of Alumni and Career Centre Lilit Hakobyan and added that after the end of the fair they will also analyze the results of the meeting of employers and job seekers.
We should note that the round-table “There is One Step from HEI to the Labor Market” was also held in the framework of the job fair.
