YSU RECTOR WELCOMES INNOVATIONS
YSU RECTOR WELCOMES INNOVATIONS
A seminar-discussion under the title "Yerevan State University in Media" was held at YSU educational-economic complex in Tsakhkadzor.

The invited journalists had meetings with YSU authorities and got detailed information on the structure and academic process of the University.

YSU Rector Aram Simonyan observed the Bologna Process and the activities of YSU within the framework of this process. Bologna Process makes no obligations, it just makes proposals,- said Mr. Simonyan. - We have joined this process for our educational system to be competitive in the world. It is obvious, that any innovation must be followed by dissatisfaction at first.

The transition to two-staged educational system was not welcomed in the very beginning, in 1996. But later it became ordinary and acceptable. The same is with credit system today. Some of the suggestions of this process must find their solutions. One of them is the mobility of students, the other is the problem of postgraduate studies, the third is the establishment of the relations between the University and society (steps are undertaken in this direction now), also the establishment of relations with the employers.

According to Rector, all those activities can come into being. But to do this we have just to break the stereotypes and to make people become tolerant for the innovations. Aram Simonyan said that Armenia joined Bologna Process later that YSEU had done. We attentively followed the process of their development and learnt their experience. If they failed anywhere, we used to choose another way,- he said.

Rector also focused on educational projects. International standards demand a special educational system. First of all, the theoretical part must be shortened and the practice must increase. The graduate must know where and how to use his/her theoretical knowledge.

During the interview Aram Simonyan talked about the personnel rearrangements, realized in the University. He said that there are not many new positions here: new employees took their positions as a result of the reduction of the technical and service personnel; and the elder employees gave up their places to the young people.

We know what our University needs together with the way of its development. We undertake activities in this direction now. The structural and personnel rearrangements witness about it. But we also need changes in our mentality and bigger financial incomes,- with such words finished his speech Rector.
