“ANALYSIS OF NKR CONFLICT APPROACHES”: DISCUSSION AT YSU
The meeting entitled “Understanding peace: Analysis of NKR conflict approaches” was held today in Paleans Hall of YSU. Journalist, the co-author of the report Mark Grigoryan, the member of the RA NA “My step” faction, MP Maria Karapetyan, the chief editor of “Analyticon” periodical of Artsakh, the president of Media Club of Stepanakert Gegham Baghdasaryan, the coordinator of “Ani” centre of Armenian Studies, the analyst-commentator of “Civilitas” foundation Tatul Hakobyan and the Caucasus Regional manager of “International alert” organization Sofia Pugsley were present at the event.

The meeting was organized by YSU Department of International Cooperation and “Media Centre”.

The “International alert” has 20 years of experience in participation in peaceful initiatives for Karabach conflict at different levels, it has conducted studied in Armenia, Artsakh and Azerbaijan trying to show alternatives to war, the approaches of the sides of the conflict.

Caucasus Regional Manager of the “International alert” Sofia Pugsley noted that she attaches high importance to the opinions of the youth regarding the problem as they are to carry on the started process.

The participant of the discussion Gegham Baghdasaryan stressed that unlike other research made into the conflict the mentioned above studies were made in a cyclic principle: interviews and talks were organized and after their publication experts expressed their impressions.

According to him, the results of the research showed a similarity typical for the three parties of the conflict: none of them considers peace the highest goal, but a means to achieve the aim.

Mark Grigoryan stressed that in his report he also included the perception of the parties regarding definition of peace.

The member of “My step” faction of the RA NA, MP Maria Karapetyan referred to the changes in the process of negotiations. She stressed that it became more transparent and the unity of messages was formed.

Analyst Tatul Hakobyan noted that the most important for us is to answer the following questions: are we ready to pay for peace? and what is the price for it?
