The German professor received the award today at the office of YSU Rector Aram Simonyan. Vice-Rectors Gegham Gevorgyan and Alexander Grigoryan, Chief of Staff of YSU Alik Gharibyan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacology and Chemistry Tariel Ghochikyan and Head of Chair of Pharmacology Ashot Saghyan were present at the medal awarding ceremony.
The cooperation between the German University of Rostock and YSU has years of history, and the cooperation in the field of chemistry strengthened in the last 5 years.
“Years ago this cooperation was limited to only sending students to the Rostock University, where they were making researches to prepare the BA and MA theses. And in 2010 we started our cooperation in the scientific field. The materials are prepared in Yerevan and catalytic processes are carried out at the Leibniz Institute of Catalysis, because there is no such an opportunity here,” - says Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacology and Chemistry Tariel Ghochikyan, noting that the cooperation has been developed in the areas of organic chemistry and biotechnology.
We should note that in the period of these few years several PhD students of YSU have successfully defended their theses at the University of Rostock. Mr. Ghochikyan says the development is obvious; it remains only to provide the professionals with a relevant job in Armenia.
“You are one of our best partners. I think the cooperation between our universities is a good example to show how can scientists and professionals of two universities work together,” - said YSU Rector, addressing the German partner.
Mr. Langer was also awarded at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. Yesterday he was awarded the Degree of Honorary Doctor.
“I believe our cooperation is very effective. Your students get additional knowledge at our university, especially in the area of modern methods of catalysis and prepare joint scientific publications. We have about 25 students from Armenia, part of them has completed post-graduate studies, others are occupied in the area of partial research,” - says Mr. Langer, adding that over 50 scientific publications have already been released in cooperation with the Armenian partners.
By the way, YSU Faculty of Pharmacology and Chemistry also cooperates with the German “Volkswagen” Foundation, making researches on the synthesis of non-protein amino acid derivatives.
