POLITICAL MOTIVES IN BOOKS ABOUT HARRY POTTER
POLITICAL MOTIVES IN BOOKS ABOUT HARRY POTTER
Maria Shteinman is a Professor of the Faculty of Humanities of “Higher School of Economics” who studied Joanne Rowling’s books and delivers lectures on the political themes highlighted in them.

According to the Professor, the political themes in the books about wizard Harry Potter and his adventures relate to the problem of Government and it is reflected in various aspects.

The main representative of the authorities in the novels is the Ministry of Wizardry which changes greatly in the course of time. At first it is a bureaucratic-supervision circle who is very much like the bureaucratic system of Britain. Dolores Ambridge is considered by the Professor to embody the bureaucratic system. The powers in the hands of the bureaucrat cause revelation of the worst features of hers.

Like a Dementor, she is fed with the scares and misfortunes of other people. When people stop being equal before law, the Chaos begins.

According to Maria Shteinman, when Voland De Morte comes to power, he shows himself as a real politician in the worst meaning of the word. She also stresses the role of the power of journalists which is great both in the world created by J. Rowling and in real Great Britain.

Actually, both Joanne Rowling and Professor Maria Shteinman attach great significance to the idea of unity, as all are equal when there is danger and only by collaborating it is possible to defeat the evil.
