REPRESENTATIVES OF 95 YEARS OLD FACULTIES OF YSU RECEIVED STATE AWARDS
The solemn session summarized the celebrations, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of YSU faculties of History and Armenian Philology.

At the initiative of YSU Rectorate, faculties of History and Armenian Philology on September 10 a solemn session was held in the Big Hall of YSU Main Building. RA President Serzh Sargsyan, YSU Rector, vice-rectors, deans, professors, students and graduates, who play significant role in the life of the country, were present at the session.

 

“Yerevan State University has assumed full responsibility to educate generations, and the faculties of History and Armenian Philology have got a significant contribution in this mission. Here not only the linguistic, literary, historical, source, ethnographic mind is shaped, but also pedagogues are trained, who later develop their activities in the sectors of public and higher education, applying their knowledge and skills in the process of educating new generations,” - said YSU Rector Aram Simonyan.

 

Deans of the pioneer faculties of YSU – History and Armenian Philology, presented a brief historical background of these faculties. They spoke of their graduates of different years, their role in our country's life, focusing on the mission of these faculties and in what difficult times they were founded.

 

“The Armenian world suffered of hunger, cold, disease, epidemics. And in these conditions the university was founded and the first students of the Faculty of History and Linguistics started their first lesson. The opening of the faculty in such format had its purpose. The country, which had restored its independence, needed tutors with strongly reflected national character and ideology,” –mentioned the Dean of the Faculty of Armenian Philology Artsrun Avagyan, proudly adding that two of the three presidents of the Republic of Armenia are alumni of this faculty.

 

We should note that the faculties of Oriental Studies, Russian Philology, Romance and Germanic Philology, Journalism, History, Philosophy and Psychology and International Relations, as well as YSU Institute for Armenian Studies have been then founded on the basis of these two faculties.

 

Dean of the Faculty of History Edik Minasyan also spoke about the outstanding alumni of the faculty and especially their participation in Artsakh Liberation War.

 

“5 of 22 rectors of YSU have been historians - Hakob Manandyan, Hovhannes Poghosyan, Kamsar Arakelyan, Mkrtich Nersisyan and now Aram Simonyan. 8 vice-rectors of YSU have already been historians. Alumni of these faculties currently hold high positions in government, they are political and social figures, heads of educational institutions,” - he said.

 

The speeches were followed by the award ceremony. RA President Serzh Sargsyan awarded a number of universitarians RA honorary titles and letters of acknowledgement.

 

“Yerevan State University has an invaluable contribution to the revival of the people, which has seen genocide, establishment of the Socialist Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Armenia, and so many of you present in this hall, as well as your ancestors. I am grateful to all of you,” – was written in the congratulatory message of Serzh Sargsyan.

 

A number of representatives of these faculties was awarded YSU gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as certificates.
