56 STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE NOMINAL SCHOLARSHIPS THIS YEAR
Today, the regular session of YSU Academic Council was held. The agenda included 5 main issues, as well as current issues.

At the beginning of the meeting the schedule of the sessions of the Academic Council for the second semester of 2015-2016 academic year was approved.

Then the Vice-Rector on Educational Affairs Alexander Grigoryan presented the results of the survey of students about the quality and effectiveness of education in 2014-2015 academic year.

The survey involved 69.7% of YSU students. The highest rate of participation was at the Faculty of Physics. As a result of the evaluation of the work of dean and deputy dean the top three is the following: Faculty of Law, Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Faculty of Russian Philology. According to the survey the best staffs of the dean’s offices are at the faculties of Armenian Philology, Radiophysics and Law.

Mr. Grigoryan also drew attention to the results of that part of the survey which deals with the work of curators and corruption risks.

Mr. Grigoryan expressed concern about the fact that the results of the survey are not always discussed at the sessions of the academic councils of the faculties, and not always the appropriate decisions are made.

The list of the students (56 people) who will receive nominal scholarships in the second semester of the 2015-2016 academic year was also approved.

This year’s list includes one more new scholarship for the students of the Faculty of Pharmacology and Chemistry – scholarship after Dr. Nazeli Charchyan.

One of the issues on the agenda was the report of the Chairman of YSU SSS Mher Hakobyan on the activities of the Student Scientific Society in 2014-2015 academic year. He noted that in the reporting period about 1,500 students of Yerevan State University and 450 students from other universities have been involved in the activities of this organization, 11 collections of articles, 1 book of abstracts, 1 educational-methodological guide, 341 scientific articles have been published, 559 events have been organized, including conferences, seminars, film screenings, moots, competitions, etc.

Among the current issues the participants of the session discussed the issue of awarding the title of honorary professor of YSU RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan for a long and productive collaboration with YSU, particularly with the Faculty of International Relations. Academic Council by an open vote decided to award him the title of Honorary Professor of Yerevan State University.

The last question on the agenda was of scientific and educational nature. Doctor of History, Professor at the Faculty of History Artak Movsisyan made a report headed “Pre-Mashtots Writing System in Armenia.” We should note that recently Mr. Movsisyan has defended his doctoral thesis on this topic.
