Foreign Minister of the Hellenic Republic of Greece Nikos Kotzias who is on official visit to Armenia was received at YSU today. The meeting was attended by students.
The honorable guest delivered a lecture and answered their questions. He was accompanied by his Armenian colleague, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan.
The meeting began with the welcoming remarks of YSU Rector Aram Simonyan, who presented the history of the university, noting that soon it will celebrate its 100th anniversary of foundation, also spoke about the educational and scientific relations with the educational institutions in Greece.
“The cooperation between YSU and a number of Greek universities has a long history. Owing to the cooperation with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki our students participate in Greek language courses there,” - said Mr. Simonyan and, also listed other areas of cooperation.
Greek Foreign Minister then spoke of the most important directions of the foreign policy challenges facing the European Union, as well as the prospective directions linking Armenia and Greece. He noted that he has really missed the contact and discussions with students in the period of his political career.
The award ceremony was followed by the speech of the Greek Minister. YSU Rector Aram Simonyan presented him the Certificate of Honorary Doctor for the outstanding achievements in social and political areas, significant contribution to the development of the relations between Armenia and Greece.
Then Mr. Kotzias answered students’ questions, which related to the certain conflict issues in the international arena, Greece and EU relations, etc. One of the students asked if it is possible to provide scholarships for students to study or participate in the exchange programs in Greece, and the minister gave a positive response and promised to be consistent in this matter.
Before the visit to YSU, Prime Minister Nikos Kotzias was received by the RA Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, Defense Minister of Armenia Vigen Sargsyan and Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan.
