This year’s Olympiad, held since 2007, was attended by 2822 pupils from 197 schools in Yerevan and 7 regions of the RA. 449 of them received awards today. By the way, only 600 students from 53 schools came to test their knowledge in 2007.
The purpose of the Olympiad is not only to provide a platform to test knowledge, but also help pupils to choose a right specialty.
A feature of this year was not only the record number of participants, but also the expansion of geography. Head of Pre-University Education Department of YSU Vachagan Galstyan said that next year’s Olympiad is scheduled in all regions of Armenia.
“Today Olympiad provides no advantages for the entrance to HEI, but we are interested in this matter. Let us say, if the winners of the republican Olympiads enter the university without examination, as is the case in some countries. We will submit our proposal to the Ministry of Education and Science for the winners of Olympiads on physical and mathematical subjects to receive the opportunity to enter YSU without examination,” - said YSU Vice-rector on Educational Affairs Alexander Grigoryan.
During the awarding ceremony not only participants of the Olympiad, but also schools, whose pupils overall showed the highest scores received diplomas and gifts.
“I often participate in Olympiads, but I participated in the Mathematics Olympiad for the first time. I am very glad that I did. I think, for any pupil it is a good experience, since it gives a sense of confidence,” - said the 11th form pupil from “Quantum” Gymnasium, the winner of 1st category David Martirosyan.
The Olympiad began on March 17; pupils tested their knowledge in 15 general subjects.
