Editor in chief of one of Armenian leading dailies Aravot (Morning) Aram Abrahamyan was the guest of YSU Faculty of Journalism students. In the beginning the journalist told about his standpoints regarding journalism.
How can the journalist remain impartial? I do not like this word: it is full of indifference, - said our guest, adding he likes well-balanced and proportionate material.
Having got corresponding treatment towards this or that event, the journalist tries to balance it, bringing the facts and aspects, which he likes, not focusing on his essence. To my mind this is just what professionalism is called. In our reality it is hardly ever possible to separate the news from a comment. In this case the political order is obvious..., - he said.
He advised future journalists never to forget about their principals: And You will be fired right away. He knows that YSU graduates meet such managers, who make the newcomers forget everything, they have learnt in HEI. No, never do so, so why have You studied so much?
Students asked why the musician Aram Abrahamyan decided to choose the area of journalism. The answer was a very short one - the money. In 1983, when he was 23, he was the announcer of a musical program Melody on state TV, in a mixed genre of music and journalism, then the music gradually was left alone and only journalism remained. I focused just on journalism after the Soviet years, - he said.
One of students liked the expression Aravot will be a newsombudsman. We, as journalists, are very far from the ideal and many other professional qualities, - said Mr. Abrahamyan. - To put the complainers on the civil way, I send them to ombudsman, who will give solution to any of the issues.
Each morning Editor in chief first of all, naturally, examines his newspaper. As for other papers, I read them in the order they are put on my table. I have never read and do not read the papers Freethinking: and Brackets. Sometimes I read Square, but I am not the subscriber of it.
The very area that Aravot is occupied in also provides us with newspapers 168 hours, Right de-facto and Nation. Other newspapers are the frontal papers of power, and more often opposition.
