The initiative of this traditional contest belongs to Slavonic House NGO and Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University supported by the Embassy of Russian Federation in Armenia. This year the contest was held in the framework of the year of Russian language in Armenia.
24 universities participated in the contest which could present students in 3 nominations: singing, recitation and theatrical performance.
16 participants will go to Moscow in the end of this month to participate in the contest between countries of CIS. Here the winner country will be decided,- said one of the organizers of the contest Nona Gustova.
This year YSU had participants only in the categories of recitation and singing. The poem by S.Yesenin I get upset when I look at You was recited by the student from the Faculty of Russian Philology Armine Hajatyan, and the member of YSU chorus student from the Chair of Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology Roza Ayvazyan performed the song The sky is me.
YSU Culture Center had started preparations for the contest just after they had received the invitation. The Director of the Center Karine Davtyan states that long and thorough preparations had been undertaken with each of the participants, paying attention on every detail.
YSU had gone to the contest with great inspiration but returned disappointed and with the decision not no participate anymore.
Both Rector and the dean of the Faculty of Russian Philology informed me that last year the universitaians were unsatisfied with the reulsts of the contest, as they were sure that the organizers had shown prejudiced attitude. The Culture Center is a new institution and I decided to make preparations according to all demands and to try once again. But all occured to be in vain.
The universitarians and participants of the contest from YSU ensure us that the contest was not organized in a proper way and one could see obvious prejudiced attitude.
Karine Davtyan says that the people who were not present at the contest can analyze the situation. It is quite enough to mention that the winner in the nomination of recitation was the Yerevan Branch of the Institute of Inter-economical Relations of Sankt Peterburg University of Economics and Law.
The poem was performed by a group of 8 people and the performance lasted for 10 minutes, but in the regulations of the contest there was mentioned that 1 student could take part in the nomination of recitation and the performance could not exceed 3 minutes. YSU has brought a Certificate of participance, a book and a souvenir.

A literary composition based on the works of the modern poet, and literary critic, YSU professor Henrik Edoyan was presented at YSU Charles Aznavour Culture Center.

A meeting with Armenian composer, People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Mansuryan took place at YSU Charles Aznavour Culture Center, during which university rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan presented the maestro with YSU gold medal.
