The brief stage of student Olympiad took place in the faculty of Mathematics of Yerevan State University on 28th of April. Students from faculties of Mathematics, Informatics and Applied Mathematics, Physics and also students from SEUA were participating in the competition. Participants were 55. Students had to solve 7 sums from every sphere of Higher Mathematics in 4 hours.
Three students got 40 points from 70 possible: they were Levon Nurbekjan, Vardan Voskanyan, and Karen Qeryan who were awarded with the first prize. By the way they all were students from the faculty of Mathematics. In general, 7 persons were awarded with 1st, 2nd and 3rd category prizes. Also 3 persons got encouraging prizes.
In the jury staff there were assistant professor Michael Poghossyan, candidate of Physical & Mathematical sciences Hayk Asatryan, assistant professor Varoujan Atabekyan, Rafael Barkhoudaryan, candidate Arthur Barkhoudaryan. The president of the jury was assistant professor of Physical and Mathematical sciences Karen Navasardyan.
According to the member of jury Rafael Barkhoudaryan, results which showed the students are very reassuring. Last year two teams from our students who won went to take part in two International Olympiads in Iran and Odessa. From Iran we returned with the 1st category prize, and from Odessa 2nd, 3rd, also with honor certificates. By the way, students from 39 countries were participating in Odessa, and this year also the number of the countries is the same who are participating in the Olympiad in Bulgaria,- said Rafael Barkhoudaryan.
He also told that last year, before participating in the International Olympiad, students who were going to take part had prepared a week for the competition in the Hamalsaran educational-economic complex in Tsakhkadzor. We hope to give such an opportunity to our students also this year,- said the organizer.
Students expenses cares YSU faculty of mathematics, which is trying to find sponsors for the students every year.
