About Faculty
A department of international relations was opened in the Faculty of Oriental Studies of YSU in 1990, which operated as a part of the Faculty of History from 1991-1992. In April 1993, the Chair of Theory and History of International Relations was founded, which was later renamed the Chair of International Relations and Diplomacy. On September 16, 1998, by the decision of the Academic Council of YSU, the Faculty of International Relations was established based on the Chair of International Relations of the Faculty of History, which also included the Chair of Political Science of the Faculty of Philosophy.
Thanks to years of effective and extensive work, the Faculty of International Relations has gradually become one of the leading faculties of Yerevan State University. Professors Ed. Zohrabyan, G. Petrosyan, H. Hakobyan, V. Baiburdyan, I. Balyan, G. Meghryan, and other devotees made an irrevocable contribution to the establishment of the faculty and the organization of the educational process.
Fundamental research is carried out in the faculty in the following directions:
• theories of international relations,
• foreign policy and diplomacy,
• theory and history of political science,
• research of political institutions and processes,
• public administration,
• development and management of public policy.
The faculty constantly improves its educational programs, thanks to which students receive education aligned with the educational requirements and standards of the time. The educational programs offered by the faculty are based on the strategy adopted by the faculty, international standards, and best foreign practice.
The faculty operates a three-level system of full-time and part-time education: Undergraduate, Master's, and Postgraduate.
The faculty has an active research life. The representatives of the teaching staff participate in international and national conferences, seminars, and workshops, make presentations, and the results of scientific studies are published in the form of monographs and scientific articles.
The faculty publishes "Banber of Yerevan University: "International relations and political science" and "Political Science" scientific periodicals, which are included among the periodicals and scientific journals acceptable to the RA Supreme Certifying Committee, as well as in international scientific databases.
From the point of view of effectively organizing scientific and educational activities, local and international cooperation and joint work with colleagues are particularly important in the Faculty of International Relations. The faculty actively cooperates with the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the RA National Assembly, and other state agencies and departments, where students of the faculty get the opportunity to undergo professional internships during their studies. There is also expanded cooperation with international scientific centers and institutions, which is the best evidence of the faculty’s and students' active participation in mobility programs, inclusion in international educational programs, organization of lectures (also online) with the involvement of high-profile and well-known specialists, which is increasing day by day.
Student life is also active in the faculty, as student organizations, as well as the Young Internationalists Club, are functioning.
The faculty also has symbolic traditions. At the beginning of each academic year, on September 1, the RA Minister of Foreign Affairs delivers the first lecture for the first-year students of the Faculty of International Relations. Freshmen get an opportunity to learn about international and regional political processes and ask questions to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. In addition, the organization of the annual scientific session has become a tradition, which is the sum of the scientific and educational research that is carried out by the faculty and the result of the discoveries, studies, and research in which the scientific potential of the faculty is focused.
Graduates of the Faculty of International Relations apply the deep and systematic knowledge acquired during their studies both in practical work and in professional activities. They work successfully both in the fields of academic, international relations and interstate cooperation, in state administrative agencies, as well as local self-government bodies.
