On March 4, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., YSU Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology will host a lecture on "The Socio-Psychological Processes Underlying Collective Action in Repressive Contexts."
The "Public Process Studies" research group of the Psychology Research Center will host Professor Arin Ayanyan, international co-director of the research grant project "Belonging, Power to Influence, and Civic Action: The Understanding of Citizenship in Post-Revolutionary and (Post)War Armenia from a Socio-Psychological Perspective", social-political psychologist, and professor at the Center for Conflict and Violence Studies (Bielefeld University, Germany).
During the lecture, Professor Arin Ayanyan will discuss the various socio-psychological processes underlying participation in peaceful civil protests at the individual (micro) level in repressive, non-democratic contexts, focusing on how pressure shapes these processes. He will present the findings of research based on quantitative and qualitative data collected from Egypt, Russia, Ukraine, Hong Kong, and Turkey. The speaker will also address potential directions for deepening the understanding of collective action in contexts characterized by uncertainty and instability.
The lecture is tailored for students as well as researchers in psychology, sociology, political science, and related fields.
The working language will be English, and consecutive translation will be provided if necessary.
Admission is free.
