Chair of World History
The Chair of World History was founded in 1938 as Chair of General History of YSU. In 2005 it was renamed the Chair of World History. Prominent scientists and professors like Ab. Hovhannisyan, St. Nersisyan, Gr. Mikayelyan, J. Kirakosyan, V. Diloyan, G. Harutyunyan, and others worked at the Chair for different years. Courses related to various issues of the Ancient World, the Middle Ages, and New and Modern history are taught in the Chair, the programs of which have been developed aligned with the modern principles of university pedagogy. For years, the chair has been carrying out research activities in several main directions, including:
• problems of pre-industrial, industrial, and post-industrial civilizations,
• Armenia in the context of East-West civilizational relations,
• globalization in the context of Armenian history,
• historical thought, etc.
For more than 80 years, representatives of the teaching staff of the Chair have published many monographs and scientific articles both in Armenia and abroad. As guest lecturers, they regularly give lectures at various universities in Europe and America (Michigan, Boston, Harvard, Krakow, etc.). In addition to local institutions, the staff of the Chair was also trained in the universities of Thessaloniki, Boston, Moscow, Petersburg, Tomsk, and Novgorod.
