On November 20, 2024, YSU Faculty of History hosted an event dedicated to academician Hakob Manandyan, at which the results of a biographical materials competition were presented.
Back in 2023, the Faculty of History, in collaboration with Hakob Manandyan's great-granddaughter, Eleonora Manandyan, announced a biographical materials competition dedicated to the academician. The initiative aimed to create a comprehensive article about Manandyan's life and work, which will be translated into two languages and published on Wikipedia, thereby contributing to the wider dissemination of his scientific heritage.
As part of the competition, Mary Nazaryan, a master’s student at the Faculty of History, and journalist Gayane Yenokyan worked together on an article titled "Hakob Manandyan's Figure as an Armenian and a Scholar", which was presented at the event.
Mkhitar Gabrielyan, the Dean of YSU History Faculty, spoke about the competition, noting, "It is important that the future historian, Caucasian scholar, cultural expert, and ethnographer feel the 'breath' of the people who have 'shaped' these professions over the centuries as they embark on their professional journey. It is no coincidence that one of the most responsible and difficult periods of Manandyan's life is connected with Yerevan State University. Through his figure and scientific influence, he educated generations and strengthened the reputation of the History Faculty in the university and academic community".

Hakob Manandyan's great-granddaughter, Eleonora Manandyan, addressed the students of the Faculty of History in her speech, stating: "When speaking about Hakob Manandyan, it is important to highlight that he, along with other great figures of his time, dedicated themselves to the motherland during a particularly challenging period for Armenia. Thanks to their efforts, they were able to lift the country from the ruins and establish a university."
As part of the event, Edik Minasyan, Head of the Chair of Armenian History, briefly presented Hakob Manandyan's life and scientific work, emphasizing the value of his historiographical legacy, which continues to play a crucial role in the development of Armenian historiography.
At the end of the event, Hayk Mkhoyan, Head of the Office of the History Faculty and Deputy Dean, announced a new competition focused on the issue of historical falsification by Azerbaijan. The winners of the competition will develop an educational module and present methods for countering Azerbaijani propaganda to students.
Among the attendees at the event were the teaching staff and students from the Faculty of History.
