Chair of Diplomatic Service and Professional Communication
The Chair of Diplomatic Service and Professional Communication of the Faculty of International Relations was established in 2010. From 2010 to 2020 the Chair was headed by Ph.D., Associate Professor Nubar Chalymyan. Since 2020, the head of the Chair has been Ph.D., Associate Professor Suzanna Navasardyan.
As part of the courses taught in the Chair, students study both theoretical and practical issues of diplomatic and consular service in foreign languages. An important place is given to the specifics of the diplomatic and consular service, the tasks of the responsible mission of the diplomat, and the teaching of the main duties.
Excellent knowledge of foreign languages (European and Eastern) is especially important in the Chair. According to Article 24 of the RA Law on Diplomatic Service, a diplomat must be fluent in at least two foreign languages. Accordingly, foreign language teaching is carried out following established international standards of diplomatic speech, culture, and diplomatic service skills. The teaching staff of the Chair conducts courses in 11 foreign languages: Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Azerbaijani, English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.
During the learning process, interactive teaching methods are used, such as simulation games of negotiations and high-level meetings, situation analyses, round table discussions, competitions, debates, and student conferences in foreign languages.
Although the graduates of the faculty do not receive the qualification of a professional translator or linguist, they successfully compete with the graduates of linguistic faculties in terms of foreign language skills, especially when it comes to complex oral interpretation of political and diplomatic negotiations, public speeches and communication with media representatives.
The Chair pays great attention to the involvement of language specialists from leading foreign universities in the teaching process. Every year, leading professionals are invited from abroad, who, along with the professors of the Chair, conduct both theoretical and practical training.
The teaching of European and Eastern languages is carried out with special educational programs authored by professors of the Chair, educational literature, textbooks, and dictionaries, which contribute to the growth of the scientific level of teaching, quality standards, accessibility, and modernity of teaching methods.
The professors of the Chair actively participate in various conferences and seminars of international and interstate, as well as local significance, continuously improving their achievements.
