Synchrotron radiation will be investigated in cylindrically symmetric layered medium with piecewise constant axion field. Within the framework of axion-electrodynamics, quantum vacuum effects for electromagnetic and axion fields will be studied in the presence of boundaries. Applications will be considered in topological insulators and in Weyl semimetals. The combined effect of the gravitational field and boundaries on the local characteristics of electromagnetic and axion vacua will be investigated for de Sitter and anti-de Sitter background geometries. Applications will be considered in the cosmology of the Early Universe and in braneworld models.
