General information
Arrays of semiconductor quantum dots and rings are promising candidates for fabrication of novel semiconductor nanodevices such as new generation photovoltaic cells, photodetectors, sensors etc. with intriguing electrical, magnetic and optical properties. Together with theoretical and experimental research, computer simulations of such systems also can play an important role. They not only link analytic theory and experiment, but can also be used as an exploratory tool in “computer experiments” under conditions which would be unfeasible, too expensive, or too dangerous for real experiments in the laboratory. The aim of this project is the establishment of a center for modelling and simulations of nanostructures based on quantum dots and rings for prediction of their properties taking into account internal and external influences. The laboratory is foreseen to be used for educational purposes as well, to develop abilities of researchers and students to model semiconductor nanostructures and predict their properties. We strongly believe that the center of modelling and simulations of nanostructures will boost the research and development in Armenia in the field of semiconductor nanostructures and nanodevices.
