The Current Stage of the Demographic Transition in the RA (with the Assessment of the Impact of the 2020 Artsakh II War and COVID-19 Pandemic)

The effects of the II Artsakh War and the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic have had a significant impact on the demographic situation of the RA in 2020, which was primarily manifested by high mortality rates. The aim of this project is a comprehensive study to analyze the impact of the effects of the war and the pandemic in the context of the current stage of demographic transition in the RA. Since war and pandemic are different phenomena, the first priority for this research project is to study and analyze the demographic impact of each of them individually (e.g., the characteristics of the distribution of age groups - the age-sex structure, which measures the reproductive effect on fertility rate), as well as the overall impact on population reproduction and other demographic indicators. Since the number of casualties and injuries during the hostilities is not final on the one hand, but on the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the research project needs to continue at a certain time to summarize the assessment task set by the project.
