MASTER'S THESIS. GUIDE
A Master's thesis is a work of independent research, analysis, and/or application. It reflects the Master's student's ability to practically apply the knowledge gained in the given professional field and to conduct independent research, raise scientific problems and find solutions for them.
The Master's thesis is the individual and final component of the Master's program.
All graduate students must have prescribed thesis topics and supervisors by the end of the 1st (2nd in the case of distance learning) semester of the 1st year.
The pre-defense of the Master's work is conducted by the specialization study unit (inter-chair committee) with the participation of the heads of the unit and the Master's program, as well as the scientific supervisor of the Master's student.
If plagiarism is detected during the pre-defense of the thesis, the work is not allowed for public defense.
It should be noted that plagiarism is considered to be the use of other sources without reference, or the use of any material (text) to a significant extent.
The public defense of the Master's thesis is conducted according to the procedure established by the RA ESCS Ministry.
The defense of the thesis is held in the 4th semester in the case of full-time education and the 5th semester in the case of distance education.
In the case of the detection of plagiarism during public defense, the work is evaluated as insufficient.
The master's thesis is evaluated with a 20-point system according to the established criteria and their corresponding standards. Only those members of the final certification committee who were present during the entire defense of the Master’s student evaluate the thesis. The evaluation results of the final attestation committee are published immediately after the summation in the presence of the graduates.
After the publication of the evaluation results, the Chair of the commission asks the Master’s students about the existence of complaints. Immediately after the publication of the evaluation results, the Master's student submits an application to the Chair of the committee in case of a complaint regarding them.
The appeal is considered if there are violations of the procedural provisions of the “Final attestation of graduates of institutions implementing RA higher professional educational programs" order.
After receiving the application, the Chair of the committee presents to the graduate the results of the evaluations of the members of the committee, by the criteria and standards defined in this order.
In case of detection of errors in the implementation of procedures and the calculation and summarization of evaluation points during the assessment process, the committee:
a) Changes the assessment if the detected violation or error affected the assessment result,
b) Does not change the assessment, if the error or defect did not affect the assessment result,
c) Cancels the results of the defense, if there are serious procedural violations of the order, and immediately organizes a new defense.
Dear Master's students, we wish you success in defending your Master's thesis.
