"I LOVE MY PROFESSION, ORIENTAL STUDIES. IT'S PART OF MY IDENTITY." RUBEN MELKONYAN
Dean of YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies, Professor Ruben Melkonyan was recognized the winner in the philological nomination of the annual competition "Excellence in Teaching at Yerevan State University".
We talked to Mr. Melkonyan about his profession, interesting aspects of pedagogical activities and difficulties.
He said, that his environment seemed to motivate him to study the east. It started as an amateur interest, then became a profession and a topic of scientific research.
"I love my profession, oriental studies. it's part of my identity", he said.
He told us about his pedagogical activities.
He said that his pedagogical path can be described as "classical oriental". He began teaching Turkish and then Turkish literature, as his dissertation was devoted to modern Turkish literature.
At the end of the interview, Mr. Melkonyan advised his junior colleagues to do their job with love, because it has not only educational, but also political and security significance.
