YSU ADDRESS TO INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC COMMUNITY
YSU asked the international academic partners to apply to the governments of their countries, human rights organizations.
I am informing You that the entire length of the contact line of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) has been under heavy air and artillery attack by the Azerbaijani armed forces since September 27, 2020.
Azerbaijan is targeting the peaceful settlements of Artsakh, including the capital Stepanakert, with the use of large-caliber lethal weapons typical to occupation wars. Military servants, civilians, including children are killed.
On September 29, the Azerbaijani armed forces shelled the Armenian settlements located on the sovereign state border of the Republic of Armenia, causing human losses, damaging roads of vital importance, gas pipelines, railways, communications means, etc.
The Azeri-Turkish military aggression is accompanied by unprecedented hate speech against ethnic Armenians, the people of Artsakh and Armenia, violence, as well as aggressive calls for murder.
The Republic of Turkey is actively involved in the military aggression of Azerbaijan, the evidenced of which is the attack by one of the F-16 fighters belonging to the Turkish Air Force located at Ganja Airport of Su-25 of the Armenian Air Force, that was carrying out combat missions in the airspace of the Republic of Armenia, in the result of which the Armenian pilot was killed.
In the military aggression against Artsakh and Armenia the Azeri-Turkish tandem has involved a large number of mercenary terrorists from Syria and Libya, the evidence of which these days is stated in the world's leading media. The above mentioned has been strongly condemned by many countries around the world, international governmental and non-governmental organizations.
The UN Human Rights Council by its 42/9 resolution of 26 September 2019 has strongly condemned use of mercenaries to impede the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination, considering mercenaries' activities crimes and threat to security, peace and human rights.
It is obvious that these days the Armenian people in Artsakh are fighting against international terrorism, defending regional security and stability.
Presenting the above mentioned facts, on behalf of Yerevan State University we ask you to address the national governments of your countries and human rights organizations:
- to condemn the Azerbaijani-Turkish military aggression against the Republic of Artsakh;
- calling on the third countries, in particular Turkey, to refrain from supporting Azerbaijani military aggression and terrorist acts;
- to demand Azerbaijan to immediately cease military aggression and return to the negotiating table to find a peaceful solution to the issue under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group.
Sincerely,
Prof. Dr. Gegham Gevorgyan
YSU Rector
