THE ACADEMIC COUNCIL APPROVED THE PROJECT ON ESTABLISHING "YSU STEM SCHOOL", WHICH WILL BE SUBMITTED TO THE APPROVAL OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES: A SESSION OF THE ACADEMIC COUNCIL TOOK PLACE
The session of the YSU Academic Council was held today with 14 agenda and ongoing questions, during which, among other decisions, academic ranks of associate professors were awarded, charters of various structural units were approved and the results of a number of processes were presented. In addition, the Academic Council approved the decision to submit the project for the approval of the Board of Trustees to create the "YSU STEM School" unit.
Before the approval of the session's agenda, YSU rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan informed that this year seven YSU students were awarded educational prizes in the field of information technologies. Congratulating on the awards, YSU Rector presented gifts and thanked them for upholding the honor of YSU.
Then, Marina Muradyan, the leading specialist of the academic secretariat, was awarded the YSU gold medal for fifty years of meritorious and impeccable service at YSU, as well as for her great dedication to the university and work.
"Dear Mrs. Muradyan, I congratulate you on this award, wishing you good health to continue your fruitful activity with the same dedication and energy," the YSU rector said.
Then, after the approval of the agenda of the session, Poghos Vardevanyan, the chair of the Standing Competition Committee of the YSU Academic Council, presented the 15 applications for awarding the academic ranks of associate professor to the Academic Council for approval, stating that all the submitted documents meet the required standards and are guaranteed by the committee.
Next, H. Hovhannisyan presented the decisions of the Academic Councils of the Oriental Studies and Radiophysics Faculties regarding the selection of the deans' positions for approval by the YSU Academic Council, according to which former deans Ruben Melkonyan and Khachatur Nerkaryan were re-elected to the deans' positions in the faculties.
A counting committee was formed to approve the presented decisions, and then a secret ballot was announced.
Moving on to the next question on the agenda, the YSU rector presented the draft decision to submit a proposal to the YSU Board of Trustees regarding the creation of a structural unit "YSU STEM School" in the "Yerevan State University" foundation.
According to H. Hovhannisyan, the school will provide third-level education of the secondary general education program. He stated that a lot of work has already been done in this direction. The YSU Academic Council approved the decision to submit the presented project for approval by the Board of Trustees.
As part of the next question on the agenda, the Academic Council approved the charter and publishing policy of the YSU Publishing House, as well as the regulations of the YSU Center on Student Affairs, the Library named after Sargis and Marie Izmirlyan, and the Scientific Organizational Council.
By the way, the Scientific Organizational Council is a consultative body attached to the rector; its activity is aimed at the proper implementation of the scientific and scientific-organizational activities carried out at YSU.
Then H. Hovhannisyan presented the question about the change in the Standing Competition Committee of YSU Academic Council, according to which Irina Vardanyan, a student of the Faculty of Economics and Management, has completed her studies, and instead of her, the SC proposed the candidacy of Vergine Danielyan, a third-year student of the same faculty. The Academic Council approved the proposed change.
Next, Emil Gevorgyan, the chair of the Standing Committee of Quality Assurance of the YSU Academic Council, presented the new educational program of the "Radiophysics and Computer Technologies" bachelor's degree of the Faculty of Radiophysics for the approval of the scientific council. According to him, the program has gone through all stages of the established procedure and meets the required standards. The Academic Council approved the presented educational program.
Moving on to the next question on the agenda, Head of YSU Financial Analysis Department Tigran Galstyan reported on the transfer (rotation) of YSU students based on the results of the 2022-2023 academic year. He presented the results of the allocation of student allowances for the year 2022-2023, the vacant places caused by the transfer by faculties, the number of students with equal grade point average during the transfer by faculties, the threshold of grade point average as a result of the transfer by undergraduate majors and other information.
In the framework of the next point, the head of the YSU Educational-Methodological Department, Hrant Zhamharyan, reported the results of the 2022-2023 bachelor's and master's degree admissions, noting that YSU maintained its leading position in terms of the number of admitted students.
He informed that in the 2022-2023 academic year, 2354 students were admitted to the YSU bachelor's program, and 260 students were admitted to the distance learning system. 658 students were admitted to the YSU master's program, and 115 students were admitted to the distance education system.
Then H. Zhamharyan presented the chair loads of the 2022-2023 school year, stating that this year the academic load was about 642,082 hours.
The Head of the Educational - Methodological Department also presented the results of the 2021-2022 student surveys regarding the quality and efficiency of teaching at YSU to the Academic Council.
As part of the last question on the agenda, Mary Panosyan, President of YSU SSS, reported on the activities of YSU SSS during 2021-2022, saying that during the reporting period, SSS organized 576 events, including five scientific conferences, one of which was international, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of RA independence. In addition, according to M. Panosyan, 54 articles were published in the specified period.
After running out of agenda questions, moving on to ongoing ones, the Academic Council approved the decision adopted by the Academic Council of the Institute of Pharmacy regarding the nominees for the nominal scholarship for the first semester of the YSU 2022-2023 academic year (with other funding).
The Academic Council guaranteed the publication of the work by the Head of YSU Department of English Philology, Professor Seda Gasparyan and Associate Professor Alina Petrosyan on "Domain-Specific English Insight into Health-Care Setting", as well as the work by the lecturers of YSU Department of German Philology Gayane Meltonyan, Christine Soghomonyan, and Naira Divanyan entitled "German for A2-B1 Levels". Academic Council also decided to submit a petition to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports to approve them as a teaching methodical manual and a textbook, respectively.
Then, the Chair of the Counting Committee, Artur Sahakyan, presented the results of the closed secret ballot, according to which the Academic Council approved all the presented decisions.
At the end of the session, the Head of YSU Legal Clinic, Knarik Vardanyan, gave a presentation on "Clinical education as an effective method of combining academic education and practice", presenting the activity of YSU Legal Clinic.
At the end, the head of the YSU Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology Chair Anna Poladyan spoke about the pretreatment of organic waste, microbial biomass, obtaining bioenergy and other valuable materials, as well as the effective experience of introducing a research component into the educational program.
