“WE SHOULD ESTABLISH CLOSE TIES WITH THE EMPLOYERS AND PROVIDE OUR STUDENTS WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE LABOR MARKET”: NAREK HARUTYUNYAN
Associate Professor at the Chair of Social and Economic Geography of YSU, Candidate of Geographical Sciences Narek Harutyunyan has at this moment assumed the position of the Acting Head of Chair. During our conversation, Mr. Harutyunyan presented the main provisions of the program, which will be fulfilled if he assumes the post of the head of the chair.
Narek Harutyunyan stated that his program’s point is to make the chair a student center: “I think students should be more involved in the work of the chair, especially in terms of formulating the topic of graduation works and choosing managers.”
According to Narek Harutyunyan, for the development of the chair, a wide range of international cooperation should be created: “So far, our chair has not laid the foundation for serious cooperation, but it should be one of the priorities, as we can share experiences and hold training sessions not only for students, but also for young scientists and lecturers. We also need to increase our participation in grant programs, and not only for lecturers, but also students should carry out active role in that process.”
He attaches great importance to the change of internship and its trends: “The need to reform this sphere is very great. We need to establish close ties with employers and be able to provide our students with the necessary labor market knowledge. We must be able to analyze and use our potential in the fields. We have very good students who can surely use their knowledge in various fields.”
According to Narek Harutyunyan, one of the current concerns of the chair is the change of generation: “At all times, this issue should be solved at the right time. We should be able to involve young professionals who will be more informed about contemporary issues and challenges and will be able to direct the work of the chair.”
Besides, Narek Harutyunyan said that in case of assuming the post of the head of the chair, he is going to encourage lecturers to have their lecture materials in print version according to the program: “I think it is a big step forward. Having the materials in printed form will give an opportunity to spend time more efficiently.”
