ANNOUNCEMENT
On May 29, 2018, members of the civil organization “YSU Restart”, exceeding their right to hold peaceful rallies, entered YSU administrative complex and, manifesting disrespect and disdain towards the personnel of YSU, presented their unreasonable and unlawful demands, violating the YSU work process. They entered the administrative buildings of the university, using violence against the rector of YSU, as a result of which he is now in the intensive care unit. His health condition is assessed as serious.
The efforts of YSU administration to resolve the issues raised by the discussion with civilized methods have not brought results. The members of the organization continued their actions: they spent the night at the university, violating the rules of the internal discipline of YSU.
We consider it unacceptable to directly participate in such events of representatives of government, in particular, the head of the Cabinet of the First Deputy Prime Minister Ararat Mirzoyan Vahan Kostanyan and the Press Secretary of the Prime Minister Karpis Pashoyan who on the spot managed the actions of the members of the organization and gave appropriate directions.
The indifference of the Ministry of Education and Science to the current situation at the university is inadmissible.
The silence of the university community of Armenia is suspicious ...
In such circumstances, we urge the incumbent government to take measures to restore the working and educational process at Yerevan State University, to release the conference hall of YSU Academic Council, and to take appropriate measures to avoid such actions.
At the same time, we also appeal to the law enforcement agencies with a request to take legal measures to provide legal assessment of the facts indicated in this announcement.
YSU Vice-rectors
Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences,
Academician of NAS RA, Professor Gegham Gevorgyan
Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences,
Associate Professor Alexander Grigoryan
