THE TEAM OF YSU FACULTY OF LAW IS THE LEADER OF INTER-UNIVERSITY MOOT COURT AGAIN
The oral stage of the inter-university moot court dedicated to the fundamental problems of criminal right and criminal proceedings held by the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ)and YSU Faculty of Law for the third year started in “Arthur’s Aghveran Resort” on October 5.
This year 10 teams representing different universities of the RA and Artsakh applied for participation.
The following teams won in the written stage: “BONA FIDE” and “Aurora” of Armenian-Russian (Slavonic) University, “YSU 1” and “YSU 2” of Yerevan State University, “Law defender” of the RA Police educational complex and “Nairi” of Gavar State University.
On the first day of the oral stage the opening speech was performed by the coordinator of the programs of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation Nelly Tumasyan. She said that this initiative is very important for the expansion of the professional knowledge of students and development of their practical skills.
The importance of such competitions was also stressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Law of YSU, Doctor of Law, Professor, Academician of the RA NAS Gagik Ghazinayn. He stated that holding festivals in such a format promotes development of students’ professional skills, presentation their knowledge in public disputes, gaining new knowledge and skills.
The Associate Professor of the Chair of Criminal Right of the Faculty of Law, Doctor of Law Anna Margaryan also greeted those present and attached importance to participation of students of different universities in similar competitions.
The jury of the moot court was represented by the judge of criminal chamber of the RA Court of Cassation Hamlet Asatryan, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the RA, Candidate of Legal Science David Melkonyan, the member of the RA Chamber of Advocates Mery Alaverdyan, the advocate specialized in criminal cases Miriam Zifritz and the judge of Cologne regional court and chairman of criminal chamber N 15 Professor Ian F. Orth. According to the results of the two first days of the competition, “BONA FIDE” team of Armenian-Russian (Slavonic) university and “YSU 1” team of Yerevan State University deserved the highest scores given by the jury and met in the final stage held on October 7.
After summarizing the results of the final, the member of the jury Miriam Zifritz announced that “YSU 1” team got the highest scores and was recognized the winner. Then the Vice-Rector of YSU Ruben Markosyan handed the assistant of the Chair of Criminal Proceedings and Criminalistics of YSU Faculty of Law, Candidate of Legal Sciences Sergey Marabyan the prize “Winner Tem Coach”.
All the teams participated in the event were handed participation certificates by the Faculty of Law of YSU and the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ).
“YSU 2” team of Yerevan State University was recognized winner in the nomination “Best accusatory position in writing stage” set by the Armenian Lawyers’ Association. The team also got the prize set in the nomination “Best defensive position in writing stage” set by the RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan.
The nomination “Best Defensive Speech” was set by the RA Chamber of Advocates and the RA School of Advocates. In this nomination won the member of “BONA FIDE” team of Armenian-Russian (Slavonic) University Diana Barseghyan who was rewarded with the certificate for 6 month of free internship in the office of Public Defender, as well as the opportunity to study at the School of Advocates of RA with 20% discount in tuition fee. The prize was handed by the Chairman of the RA Chamber of Advocates Ara Zohrabyan anf the director of the RS School of advocates Simon Babayan.
In the nomination “Best Accusatory Speech” set by the RA Prosecutor’s Office won the member of “YSU 2” team of Yerevan State University David Baklachyan, and in the nomination “Best orator” set by the RA Academy of Justice won the member of “Law defender” team of the RA Police educational complex Hayk Khachatryan. The prize “For attaching importance to the significance of the decisions of the RA cassation Court and its best application” set by the RA Union of Judges was handed to “Nairi” team of Gavar State university by the director of the Union Vahe Yengibaryan, and the “Aurora” team of Armenian-Russian (Slavonic) University got the prize“ for most peculiar solutions offered in their positions”.
At the end of the moot court the representatives of the teams shared their impressions of the competition stressing that it is a good opportunity to improve professional skills, to develop practical abilities, to exchange experience, to set new ties and expressed hope to meet next year.
