CENTRE FOR CHINESE STUDIES TO OPEN AT YSU
Today YSU Rector Aram Simonyan hosted the Chinese delegation headed by the Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Han Dachuan.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China Tian Erlong, the YSU Vice-rector for Scientific Policy and International Cooperation Gegham Gevorgyan as well as the Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, representatives of the faculty were present at the event.
Aram Simonyan greeted the guests and presented some details about the history of the university, its international and scientific policy. Han Dachuan mentioned that the members of the delegation had visited Armenia for the first time but they regard with responsibility to the important mission of the establishment and development of partnership with Armenia and particularly with YSU.
“The People’s Republic of China initiated the project “One Belt One Road” which has a large geographic cover and Armenia is among its active partners. It is very important for us to develop effective and dynamic interaction with Yerevan State University which has contributed greatly to the country development”, said Han Dachuan and added that the activity of the Centre of Chinese Studies of YSU will have even more contribution to centuries-old Armenian-Chinese cooperation.
YSU Rector stated that young Armenians started to show great interest in Chinese culture, language and China in general, so YSU is willing to assist in popularization of Chinese Studies in Armenia.
During the discussions the parties reached preliminary agreement to include a number of events in the further joint programs: students and young lecturers exchange, exhibitions representing centuries-old culture of the two countries, conferences, research and so on.
Then the guests met with students at the Academic Council Session Hall of YSU, presented the tendencies of Armenian-Chinese relationship development, the coming programs, the activity of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences”, the goals of YSU Center for Chinese Studies.
After the meeting the Chinese delegation participated in the solemn ceremony of opening the Centre of Chinese Studies created with the support of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
We’d like to add that the main goal of the Centre of Chinese Studies of YSU is to promote strengthening of the Armenian-Chinese relations. Research related to Chinese history and civilization will be carried out in the center, international conferences, scientific discussions and meetings will be organized there as well.
The center will also serve as a resource center for those who study Chinese. Within the scope of the events the conference entitled “5 years of “One Belt One Road” initiative: new perspectives of Armenian-Chinese cooperation” was held at YSU Academic Council Session Hall.
