PARK OF YSU CENTENNIAL TO SYMBOLIZE ONE-CENTURY-OLD UNIVERSITY: THE MEMORIAL IS UNVEILED

The park dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the foundation of YSU was laid by the university community in April of this year.

Tree planting by the university community has become a tradition began the Professor of YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies Gurgen Melikyan. Due to his support, the Universitarians have already planted 10 thousand trees in that region.

YSU acting Rector Gegham Gevorgyan, the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Public Relations Arthur Israelyan, heads of different subdivisions and representatives of the teaching staff, as well as the head of Kashatagh administration Stepan Sargsyan were present at the event.

“ I hope the good tradition of planting trees will be continued until there are students at YSU. And as the park is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of YSU, let’s hope the university will be as strong and long-living as the walnut-tree in Armenian earth”, said Gegham Gevorgyan during the ceremony of its opening.

The Professor of YSU Faculty of Iranian Studies Gurgen Melikyan blessed the park of YSU Centennial with the lines from a famous poem by Levon-Zaven Syurmelyan.

Professor Melikyan, in particular, said, “The people who plant trees, create gardens know that it is connected with that land forever. We must be ready for further steps, as it is battle for the homeland, for the border, and YSU gives the people courage and power”.

The head of Kashatagh district administration Stepan Sargsyan said that being a Universitarian he felt proud that the park of YSU Centennial was laid in this district. “It is very symbolic: this is our liberated homeland and the Alma Mater contributes to resettlement and flourishing of this area. Every year YSU students come here, plant trees and get tied with this land”.
