As part of a cultural and educational tour organized by YSU Charles Aznavour Cultural Center, a group of students visited the Sanahin and Haghpat monasteries.
The Sanahin Monastery Complex is located in Lori Province, Armenia. There is a theory that the name "Sanahin" was given to the site after the construction of Haghpat, meaning "this is older than that one". It was a major center of spiritual, cultural, and intellectual life in medieval Armenia. The Sanahin and Haghpat monasteries are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The Haghpat Monastery Complex is located in the village of Haghpat, Lori Province. It is considered one of the oldest spiritual and cultural centers in Armenia, with a history spanning over a thousand years. This period is documented by inscriptions on the monastery walls, which provide invaluable information about the historical, political, and spiritual-cultural life of the time.
One of the most notable residents of Haghpat was poet, musician, and gusan Sayat-Nova, one of the most famous and beloved ashugs of the Caucasus. He was born in the village of Sanahin and spent his final years at the Haghpat Monastery Complex.
During the cultural tour, the students had the opportunity to explore the historical sites and learn about their origins. Following this, the girls’ dance ensemble of the Charles Aznavour Cultural Center performed at the summit of the Haghpat Monastery Complex to the sounds of Sayat-Nova's song "Kani vur jan im", where the spirit of Sayat-Nova seemed to linger.
Cultural tours like these help foster a sense of personal values and unity among students. Overall, the tour itself serves as a unique opportunity to build unified strength and spirit.
Our country, with its rich heritage of historical and cultural monuments, continually seeks to rediscover this heritage with each generation. The key to uncovering and understanding all of this, and more, lies in cultural and educational tours.
We should explore and preserve the heritage passed down by our ancestors.
